RoboLingua is a software add-on, not hardware. It gives a robot that supports secondary development (a documented SDK, open API or ROS-compatible interface) the ability to hold natural spoken conversations in the languages you license, and to accompany its speech with head nods and arm gestures. Many commercial robots speak only one or two languages, typically English and Chinese; RoboLingua is built for places where visitors speak several.

It is licensed per language. Each language is a self-contained module: license Arabic alone for a showroom, or Arabic, English, Hindi and Russian for a hotel, and add further modules to the same robot later without reinstalling or taking it out of service. Robots in the same fleet can carry different language sets. More than 50 languages are offered, from Albanian to Vietnamese. Voice quality and recognition accuracy are highest in the most widely spoken languages, and improvements reach every licensed module through software updates.

RoboLingua connects the robot's microphone and speakers to a large language model pipeline, either in the cloud, which needs a stable internet connection, or at the edge on the robot's own compute. With several modules installed it identifies the speaker's language within the first sentence and answers in kind, and users can switch between licensed languages mid-conversation. Gestures follow motion profiles matched to each language, so they stay appropriate across regions; they need a robot that exposes motor control to developers.

Supported platforms include Unitree G1, H1 and R1, AGIBOT X2 and G2, UBTECH Walker S1 and S2, the UWORLD U1 series, Fourier GR and N1, Booster, EngineAI, Kepler and Leju humanoids, SoftBank NAO and Pepper, and SDK-enabled reception robots. Fully closed robots with no developer access cannot run it.
